In the foam molding process or foamed polymer material, a cellular or cellular structure is formed through the addition and reaction of physical or chemical foaming agents. The basic steps of foam molding are the formation of the cell nucleus, the growth or expansion of the cell nucleus, and the stabilization of the cell nucleus. Under the designated temperature and pressure conditions, the solubility of the gas decreases so that it reaches a saturated state, allowing the excess gas to be expelled and bubbles are formed, so as to achieve nucleation.

Foaming is the process of creating a microcellular structure in plastic. Almost all thermosetting and thermoplastic plastics can be made into foamed plastics. Commonly used resins are: PS, PU, PVC, PE, ABS, etc.

According to the cell structure, foams can be divided into two categories: if most of the pores are connected to each other, it is called open-cell foam; if most of the pores are separated from each other, it is called closed-cell foam. The open or closed cell foam structure is determined by the manufacturing method.
